Get Involved

Whether you want to enroll as a learner, volunteer your time and expertise, or invest in adult education through a tax-deductible donation, there are many meaningful ways to support Thrive Learning Community's mission. Every contribution, whether an hour of tutoring or a financial gift, directly expands access to education for adults who need it most.

Enroll as a Learner

Ready to take the next step in your education? Enrollment at Thrive Learning Community is open year-round for most programs. The process is simple, welcoming, and designed to meet you where you are. Here is what to expect: First, contact our intake office by phone at (919) 555-0237 or stop by our main campus during office hours. An intake counselor will schedule a brief orientation session where you will learn about our programs, tour our facilities, and ask any questions. Next, you will complete a diagnostic assessment (approximately 90 minutes) to help us determine your current skill levels and place you in the program and class that best matches your goals. There is no fee for the intake process, and most learners begin attending classes within one to two weeks of their initial contact.

Enrollment requirements are minimal: you must be at least 18 years of age (or 16 with an approved educational waiver), reside in North Carolina, and not be currently enrolled in a K–12 school. No prior education level is required, and undocumented immigration status is never a barrier to enrollment. All personal information collected during intake is protected under FERPA and our organizational privacy policy and is never shared with immigration authorities or law enforcement.

Become a Volunteer Tutor

Volunteer tutors are the backbone of our program delivery model. By sharing your time, knowledge, and encouragement, you directly transform an adult learner's trajectory. Thrive currently engages 85 active volunteer tutors who collectively contributed over 9,400 hours of instructional support during the most recent program year. Volunteers serve in a variety of roles: one-on-one literacy tutoring, small-group GED study facilitation, ESL conversation partners, digital skills lab assistants, and classroom teaching aides.

To become a volunteer tutor, you must be at least 18 years old, pass a standard background check, and complete our 12-hour Volunteer Tutor Training Program, which covers adult learning principles, cultural sensitivity, lesson planning basics, and assessment support. Training sessions are held quarterly, and all training materials are provided free of charge. We ask for a minimum commitment of two hours per week for at least six months, though many of our volunteers have been serving for years and describe it as one of the most rewarding experiences of their lives.
