Our Learning Pillars

Building Pathways to Opportunity

Every program at Thrive Learning Community is designed with adult learners in mind, combining evidence-based curricula with the flexibility and support that working adults need to succeed.

📖

Adult Literacy & Numeracy

Approximately 21% of adults in the United States read at or below a basic literacy level, limiting their ability to fill out job applications, read medical instructions, or help their children with homework. Our Adult Basic Education program provides individualized, small-group instruction using the National Reporting System framework, helping learners achieve functional literacy and mathematical competency at their own pace. Certified literacy coaches conduct initial diagnostic assessments, design personalized learning plans, and track progress through quarterly skill benchmarks. Each learner receives a dedicated portfolio documenting their growth from intake through program graduation, building tangible evidence of their achievement.

English Language Acquisition

For the estimated 25 million limited-English-proficient adults in the United States, language barriers create obstacles to employment, civic participation, healthcare access, and educational advancement. Our multi-level ESL program ranges from absolute beginner conversation circles through advanced academic and professional English. Instruction emphasizes practical, real-world communication: navigating public services, workplace interactions, parent-teacher conferences, and community engagement. Our multilingual intake counselors ensure every new learner is placed at the appropriate proficiency level from day one, and our classes are offered mornings, evenings, and Saturdays to accommodate shift workers and parents.

Workforce Digital Readiness

In today's economy, digital literacy is as essential as reading and writing. Our Workforce Digital Skills Certificate program teaches practical technology competencies that employers demand: word processing, spreadsheet management, email communication, internet research, cloud collaboration tools, and introductory data entry. Learners who complete the program earn a Thrive-accredited Digital Competency Certificate recognized by over 40 regional employer partners. We provide loaner Chromebooks for enrolled learners who lack home computer access, ensuring that economic barriers never prevent skill development.

Community Impact

Voices from Our Learners

Real stories from adults whose lives have been transformed through education, perseverance, and community support.

"I dropped out of school at sixteen to support my family and spent twenty years believing I could never go back. Thrive's GED program gave me patient instructors, a flexible schedule, and real encouragement. I passed all four GED subjects in eight months and enrolled at Wake Technical Community College the following semester."

Marcus T.

GED Graduate, Class of 2025

"When I arrived from Guatemala, I could only say 'hello' and 'thank you' in English. The evening ESL classes at Thrive helped me learn to read bus schedules, fill out paperwork at my children's school, and eventually interview for a better-paying job at a distribution center. My instructor, Ms. Rodriguez, never gave up on me."

Ana L.

ESL Learner, Intermediate Level

"After thirty years working at the same manufacturing plant, I got laid off and realized I didn't even know how to write a resume on a computer. The Digital Skills Certificate program at Thrive taught me everything from email to spreadsheets. Within three months of completing the program, I landed an office coordinator position."
